From jdj at mac.com Wed Jan 4 16:14:16 2012 From: jdj at mac.com (Jeff Johnson) Date: Wed, 04 Jan 2012 19:14:16 -0500 Subject: [Rumpus-talk] Good iOS WebDav Browser Message-ID: <971C3C7D-F490-4375-A3E7-03FE23223732@mac.com> Happy New Year I have need to browse Rumpus shares via WebDAV of SFTP from an iOS (iPad specifically) app. I spent several hours today looking for an app that would - Connect to rumpus via WebDAV - Allow me to browse folders/files - Directly view compatible file formats (mp3, word, pdf, etc) from with the file browsing app. Well? Believe it not, I found nothing. Half the apps had an issue when connecting to Rumpus/WebDAV where they would show a list of files/folders that weren't really at the top level of the user they logged in with. Considering this was happening with several apps, I think it may be a Rumpus issue. Out of the other apps that would allow you to browse the file/folder structure, none would allow simple viewing of the files, they required that you download to their local storage first or had some other process that was far more complicated than it should be. I tried Filer shows incorrect list of files WebDAVNav+ This app looks great, very fast, shows correct list of files, but doesn't seem to play files (mp3, mov) directly This app has the cleanest/fastest interface, so I'll write the developer to see if he can help. GoodReader Shows wrong list of files (completely wrong, you can't navigate well at all) iFiles Shows wrong list of files It does play files directly and has a decent interface Air Sharing Shows correct list of files Appears to play files directly But connections timeout, so its not really working Files Connect Interface a little clunky, but works and shows correct file list Can't play files direct, must download to local storage I do know that none of the apps actually play media files direct over webdav, at best they download to a local cache.. But I need the user experience to be simple browse, click, wait a bit, play. The appearance of direct viewing of media vs a process of managing local storage Anyone have tips? For those looking for a Windows version, stay tuned. I hope to have a solid Beta release ready by the end of the month. Message-ID: Hello. Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to modify the functionality of the drop shipping download page so that, instead of automatically downloading the file, the user would be presented with a some text (something like "The file is available ? please click here to download.")? I realize this is sort of the point of the email you would send to the person the file is intended for, but because there someone between the person who uploads the file and the client (ie. an account manager), the account manager likes to test the link before sending to the client. And right now, testing the link results in an automatic download to their machine. Again, I realize they can just cancel the download, but I'm trying to make this is friendly as possible for my users. Message-ID: Hello. I have some developers who are going to be working on re-skinning one of our Rumpus domains. Right now, when making changes to the HTML source files, it requires pressing the "Reload Template" button in the Rumpus application. I'm wondering if there's a way to trigger this reloading via the command line? Basically, looking for a way to let these developers work, without them having full access to the Rumps server settings? Message-ID: Rumpus 7.1.6 is now available in the usual place: http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/Download.html What's new, below. John Rumpus 7.1.6 ------------ Added Rumplet 1.0, the desktop Drop Ship applet, to the Rumpus package. Rumpus now executes shell script event notices more reliably. When using the iPhone app to view user accounts, user account names that include "&" and "<" no longer cause the list to be truncated. But as always, I'm announcing to the Rumpus-Talk list first... If you have a minute, take a look at the blog and social network resources. As always, let me know what you think at "support at maxum.com". John --- Maxum has put off using social networking sites for a long time, thinking that they are more appropriate for personal use than business communication. But social networking sites are increasingly used for personal news collection, so we're finally leaping into 2008 and embracing Facebook. Now, you can receive new version updates and other occasional Rumpus news announcements via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or RSS feed. (Expect a few posts per month, at most.) For details, and to check out my new blog, visit: http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/Blog.html The blog is in response to hearing people say, "I didn't know Rumpus could do that!" Every couple of weeks, I'll add a short article describing some cool but under-used feature or describing some other bit of Internet server information useful to Rumpus administrators. I hope you find this an easy, unobtrusive way to stay up to date with Rumpus!
