One item that's been on the "to do" list for a while is an iPhone/iPad app to go along with Rumpus.  In considering it, I'd like to get some feedback on what such an app should include.  Feel free to post comments, if you have them, but here are a few questions to get started...

What information about your Rumpus server would you want to see on your iPhone/iPad?  Basic server stats? Files in transfer?  Recently uploaded files?  Something else?

What Rumpus server-related functionality or information would you like to access from your iPhone/iPad?

As a mobile method for checking on your server, I would expect that most people would be most interested in an iPhone app.  But, would you plan to use an iPad more often to monitor the server?

Hi John

I would like an iPad app, I would use the bigger display for monitoring company Rumpus servers;

Transfers in progress, and transfer history. Maybe simple user management, password reset etc. Rumpus server 'load' (bandwith etc.) would be nice too.

I'd like to cast my vote for an Adroid app.

I would like to be able to see transfers in progress.  But the most important thing for me is to be able to review the logs.  Being able to add/remove people from the blocked clients list would be helpful to me.

i think both, an iPad and an iPhone Version could be interesting! The iPhone version could be a very basic version with only monitoring possibilities. The iPad Version should give entire admin access on the go... managing user accounts, drop ship files, send files...

To me, at least, this would be better an admin tool. If you're mobile, you wouldn't want to keep the thing alive over long periods of time anyway. But maybe othert have a different view.

But may I request accessibility not be forgotten?

I would like to request that the password of the person logged in be added to the "activity" screen...  Another column, perhaps?

All my customers log in anonymously, and I'd like to be able to see what password (email) they use to log in with.

Since recently I have problems to connect with FileZilla (Windows XP, v2.2.31) to a private account. Rumpus is v7.0.3 running on MacOSX 10.6.6.

The connection works, but login doesn't. I have the same effect from my own XP and a client's Windows2003 Server. Connecting to this account with a Mac ftp client works fine.

Any hints? TIA!

Hello,

I am using an older version of Rumpus (5.12) and am experiencing a problem.
When users try to view QT's  on their iPhones or iPads, they are getting an
error message that states "Cannot Play Movie. The server is not correctly
configured". This is through Safari on an iPhone...trying to view an H.264
QT. All these show up perfectly through Safari on a Mac...just not through
an iPhone or iPad. Rumpus is running on port 80. Is there some other setting
I need to enable? Or must I upgrade to a newer version just to get these to
play on mobile devices?

Support for playing QT movies on iOS devices was added more recently than Rumpus 5.1.  I think it may have been version 6 or 6.1.  QT on iOS support is definitely included in the current version.

The update primarily corrects problems related to high-volume and SSL-enabled servers.  So, if you run a busy server, or one that clients commonly connect to via either HTTPS or FTPS, the update is highly recommended.

All options on the "Network Settings" window are now correctly reflected in the running server when the "Save Changes To Server" menu item is invoked.

Additional checks have been put in place to ensure that FTP data connections are always closed when an FTP session ends.

The maximum number of network/file descriptors has been increased to avoid out of resource problems on extremely busy servers.  Low resource detection and error handling has also been improved.

A bug in SSL connection processing has been corrected to improve HTTPS and FTPS reliability.

SSL processing performance has been significantly improved through optimization of multi-thread processing.

Volume names that include certain special characters (such as '#') are now processed correctly in WebDAV directory listings.

In general, all Rumpus settings (that is, anything defined within the Rumpus application) are usually preserved through an update.  There are a few exceptions, especially if you are upgrading through numerous versions (5.2, 5.3, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 7.0) and you should always run through basic settings, to be sure the server is set up the way you need.

WFM templates, meaning the HTML template files, not WFM settings within Rumpus, will be overwritten.  If you have customized the template files, you'll need to re-create those changes after upgrading.
