From john at maxum.com Wed Jul 7 06:17:19 2010 From: john at maxum.com (John O'Fallon) Date: Wed, 7 Jul 2010 08:17:19 -0500 Subject: [Rumpus-talk] Rumpus Test Server Message-ID: Hi Folks, The upcoming Rumpus 7 release has a couple of fundamental changes, including native support for SSL (without the need for Stunnel). Benefits include better client tracking, simpler setup and management, and support for FTP with TLS, which is the preferred method of secure FTP. (FTP with Implicit SSL is still supported, too.) A test server has been set up, at "testrumpus.dyndns.tv". Three accounts are available: "moe" (password: "moe"), "larry" (password: "larry") and "curly" (password: "curly"). If you are interested in checking out the improved FTPS support, feel free to log in and poke around. Login via HTTP is also allowed, and the Web interface includes 2 notable changes. In Safari, the progress indicator now works correctly, without the pop-up window (Yay!). And in FireFox 3.6, you can drag and drop files from your desktop right into the directory listing, without having to use the "Upload Files" dialog. Please report any problems, including browser incompatibilities, to the list or directly to me at "support at maxum.com". I appreciate it! For those that want to add to the stress, please be sure to use the secure login URL: https://testrumpus.dyndns.tv/ Also, if you need to allow clients to log in via FTP, be sure to login using FTP with TLS. Both Fetch and Transmit support FTPS with TLS. (CyberDuck does, too, but I'm still working on compatibility issues.) Please try any other FTP client you commonly use, and let me know how it works. Thanks, again! This has been a long standing feature request of mine, as you might remember :-) As it is now I'm using a 3rd party sw firewall (NoobProof) to filter clients based on allowed IP's, while using SSL (Stunnel). Logs will also correctly record the client address. Setup is also easier, with better error reporting and reliability should be improved, too. The biggest benefit, I think, is improved FTPS support, which is more secure, simpler for end users, and doesn't require access on the alternate port (990). Full details below. http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/DownloadADemo.html John Rumpus 6.2.10 ============= A logging bug that could cause junk text to be included in the error log has been corrected. In the Web File Manager, files accessed through aliases can now be reliably renamed. The WFM interface has been updated for iPad access to improve scrolling in long file listings. The WFM file/folder rename function now works correctly when the upload/make folder privilege is assigned via Folder Set. WebDAV users logged in through user accounts with a specific configuration of folder set permissions are now blocked from deleting the folder specified in the folder set (reflecting the same behavior applied to Web and FTP users). The Drag & Drop Uploader applet as been updated with a new code signing certificate. One of my clients reported the following: "The FTP that fouled up was Filezilla 3.2.6.1 ..... amazing too because I have used it for years and never seen anything like that. What was happening was it was adding extra new line characters at the end of each line but even more bizarre was it was taking the functions (they are all one line and extremely long) and breaking them into lines and then also adding new line characters to them! When I tried it with WinSCP in FTP Mode it worked fine " Known problem? Workaround? Obviously, this client figured it out on his own, but he's one of the more clueful.
