From JohnD at cciu.org Wed Dec 1 10:32:51 2010 From: JohnD at cciu.org (John DeMillion) Date: Wed, 01 Dec 2010 13:32:51 -0500 Subject: [Rumpus-talk] v7 FC 2 issue Message-ID: I have a user uploading a ton of files via the drag-and-drop in v7 FC 2 running on a PowerMac G5 with OS X 10.5.8. He was getting a situation where he would upload a bunch of file (20 at a time), but at some point he'd lose his connection. At that point the Rumpus server became unresponsive via HTTPS. All seemed to be fine when I Timbuktu'd in, server status was "Running" etc, but it wouldn't answer via HTTPS (I don't use any other protocols). He had this happen a number of times, after which I'd restart the entire server box so that he could continue working (we were on a deadline). Not sure if it's related, but there were a ton of these entries in the Console's "All Messages" log (I redacted a student name that was in the filename): 11/30/10 5:01:11 PM com.maxum.rumpusd[96] sh: -c: line 0: `/usr/sbin/chown Default (root) "/Volumes/Rumpus RAID1 HD/Users/admin/Desktop/RumpusFiles/SDPFiles/08_09 & 09_10 Psych & Service/IEP_[redacted]_2009_2010_2.pdf"' 11/30/10 5:01:11 PM com.maxum.rumpusd[96] sh: -c: line 0: syntax error near unexpected token `(' It appears that there is one of these entries for each file that he uploaded. Is there any other logs that I should look at to try to determine where the issue is? There was nothing in the Rumpus Error log and not much that correlated with the failures in the Debug log, unfortunately. Is the SSL component logged somewhere separately? The lines in the Console message log won't cause any problem, but it will be fixed in Rumpus 7. As for the drag & drop problem... Is this using the drag & drop applet, or the FireFox drag & drop function? Are these large files? Please let me know off-line at "support at maxum.com" and we can get it figured out. Is there a way to automatically shorten these URLs before the initial email is sent out? If not, would this be considered as a future feature, or is that pretty much impossible? Rumpus 7 is now available: http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/Download.html Here's a quick rundown on the major new features: ----- New administrator notification messages can be sent when new users are created via Web administration, when users log in or out, or when disk space begins to run low. Secure services are now provided within the Rumpus server engine, simplifying setup, making HTTPS and FTPS service more robust, improving client tracking, and adding FTPS via TLS/SSL service. The Web File Manager interface has been completely revised to be more responsive, add features, and offer an improved appearance. Numerous improvements have been made to the "Drop Ship" and "File Request" functions, including a new window to view, track and manage guest file transfers. A new "Folder Triggers" feature allows administrators to define actions to be executed based on the folder into which a file is transferred. Support for Open Directory authentication has been substantially revised and expanded. Additional improvements include improved accessibility, better organization of the administration interface, new administrator controls, bug fixes, and more. ----- If you originally purchased Rumpus 6.X (if you bought Rumpus in October, 2008 or later), the upgrade to Rumpus 7 is free. For those who originally bought Rumpus 1.0-5.3, the upgrade cost is $99 for Rumpus Standard and $149 for Pro. http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/Upgrading.html As always, please let me know if you have any questions or problems.
