Details on when the new version will be available will follow in a day or 2. John File Name and Content Search Web users can now perform text searches to find files by name or content. Powered by the SpotLight search engine running on the server, search results are restricted to each user's content area and the folder in which the search is performed, maintaining server security and making it easy for users to control the scope of their queries. Growl Notifications Rumpus now supports Growl, the popular notification system for OS X. All Rumpus notices, including file uploads, downloads, and administrator events can be directed to Growl notifications for simple, quick and unintrusive display, even across a network or to an iPhone (with the use of a 3rd party iPhone app). iPhone Optimized Web Interface While many file management tasks, such as uploading files, don't make sense for mobile users, viewing server content using an iPhone is increasingly common. Rumpus 6.2 includes a new, simplified, iPhone-specific interface optimized for viewing media files on the go. New Web Appearance Options An entirely new WFM template set, called "Modern", has been added, offering an optional sleek new look to the Rumpus Web File Manager. All Rumpus appearances can also make use of new background fades and patterns, and display simplified file listings with pop-up menu file actions. Automatic Drop Shipping When a file is drop shipped, an e-mail which contains an automatic file download link is sent to a recipient, allowing large files to be transferred reliably. Rumpus 6.2 offers a built-in drop ship function which allows known Rumpus users to quickly and easily drop ship files to anyone on the Internet. Guest Uploads By Request Maxum has also added what can best be described as "reverse drop shipping", which we call "File Requests". Using a File Request, any Rumpus user can allow anyone, anywhere on the Internet to send a file simply by clicking a single-use file transfer link in an e-mail message. Files uploaded by guests are delivered to the Rumpus user's content folder, and the Rumpus user is notified the moment the file has arrived. Unlike the last couple of major Rumpus updates, this version does not include significant revisions to the basic server engine or existing functionality. Also, the new features included in this version have been fairly extensively tested and documented. In other words, if you install this version, it should not mess up any existing server operation, and even the new features are ready for prime time, I believe. The usual caveat about running pre-release software in production environments applies as always, but I believe this version is very solid. If one or more of the new features are appealing to you, it just might be worth trying this Beta, even on a production server. To download the complete Rumpus 6.2 Beta package, click this link: http://www.maxumdev.com/Rumpus-6.2b1.dmg If you download and install the Beta, *please let me know*. I would really appreciate a note telling me which of the new features you like, what works, and what doesn't. Seriously... Drop a note to "support at maxum.com ". IMPORTANT! If your Rumpus serial number is "RP-80-XXX" or "RR-80-XXX" or below, this version will come up as "expired". If your Rumpus license is older and you would like to test this version, open the Install Server window and enter a Serial Number of "RD-000-082" with the Validation Code "69327". This will allow you to run Rumpus 6.2 until November 30. John PS - All of the features mentioned yesterday are included in this build and are documented (mainly in the Help pages and the "Web File Manager" and "Event Notices" articles in the "Helpful Info" folder). Something; and 6.0 was on your website but you were taking about 6.1 coming soon. You said that there was no problem with upgrading to the latest version or the up coming versions. Now as you are aware from previous e-mails we have upgraded to comply with PCI testing, but we still have issues with the latest version. Now to fix the problems, some of what is needed will be in 6.2, but going by this statement my current licence will no longer work (or a max of 30 days). So I'm stuck, no extra money put in the budget as I was lead to believe my licence was sufficient, but due to unexpected issues with the product I can't get them fixed. So the question is how do I stand? But, to answer the question in general... Rumpus 6.2 will be a free upgrade for anyone that purchased their Rumpus license in 2008 or 2009. For those that purchased the license in 2007 or before, an upgrade cost of $99 ($149 for Pro) will apply. It is never my intention to charge for bug fixes, including the resolution of security issues. It is, however, impossible to keep previous versions of the software updated with bug fixes. This does sometimes lead to the problem where an upgrade is more-or-less mandatory. I try to minimize this by guaranteeing that all updates (including both maintenance and feature upgrades) are free for at least a year (usually quite a bit longer), but it does happen. As for compliance testing... It's tempting to go on a rant about automated security scanners and how they check for esoteric, generalized, cookie-cutter details without understanding what is being tested or actually addressing real server security issues. But I know that in practice, sometimes you just need a sign off. IMHO, educating your organization on proper security standards and practices is the best way to resolve line items spewed out by a security scanner. John Nigel - I can't find your license in the database. Send your serial number to "support at maxum.com" and we can discuss your specific licensing needs and the URL-sanitization issue (assuming that's what you are referring to). The issues addressed effect only a few people, and no widespread or serious problems are corrected in this version. The primary reason for this build is to clean up a few loose ends for those that might choose not to move on to version 6.2, which is expected in November. With that said, if you are experiencing on of the issues described below, the new Rumpus 6.1.3 package can be downloaded from the usual Maxum downloads page: http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/DownloadADemo.html John Rumpus 6.1.3 ------------ Corrected a problem that caused certain types of drop shipments sent via FileWatch to fail. The drop boxes (blind uploads) in the "Boxes" appearance now work correctly. URL sanitization (encoding of potentially troublesome characters sent in URLs) has been extended to include a few extra characters. Use of HTTP basic authentication is now disabled in all cases.
