The "Commented" appearance is just the Default appearance with HTML comments, so I wait and update it when the Default appearance is set in stone for the release. Just use the "Default" appearance, which is identical. The 3 major appearances: default, modern and boxes should all work as expected with all new features. > 3) I get an error message when sending authenticated emails through > our Kerio mailserver > - I think it is a CRAM-MD5 error (kerio may not support this) Send the error message you get when you click the "Test Notice" button on the Event Notice window to "support at maxum.com" and we can look into it. > 4) (minor) The Modern theme is left aligned instead of center aligned How so? Indeed. We use the heck out of this. I've even built a script that allows users to automagically create links to files and folders via the wfm that compensates for custom client folders and roots based on login. It is safe to say that we LOVE rumpus for this. -- john welch the/zimmerman/agency 850.668.2222 jwelch at zimmerman.com From john at maxum.com Mon Nov 9 13:09:22 2009 From: john at maxum.com (John O'Fallon) Date: Mon, 9 Nov 2009 15:09:22 -0600 Subject: [Rumpus-talk] Rumpus 6.2 Beta 2 Message-ID: Rumpus 6.2 Beta 2 is now available on the usual Rumpus download page: http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/DownloadADemo.html The full list of updates made since Beta 1 is included below. The final Rumpus 6.2 release is expected within weeks, so if you are interested in Growl support, full-text search, iPhone access, or the ability to send/receive files to/from guest users, please be sure to check out the Beta and let me know if the new features meet your needs. John Rumpus 6.2 Beta 2 ----------------- Rumpus will now allow the deletion or replacement of files held open by other applications on the server. Added Chinese WFM translations (Simplified and Traditional). Updated WFM localizations for Dutch, German, French, Italian and Norwegian. Drop shipped files sent via FileWatch or the Active Users window are now sent from the administrator's own e-mail address, if it is entered for their user account. When drop shipping files using the Active Users window or FileWatch, users can now choose to send the notification e-mail via OS X Mail, taking advantage of the address book, signatures and other features of Mail. The SSL Setup "Redirect HTTP Logins To HTTPS" option now forces all attempts to access the server via standard HTTP to login via HTTPS. Added the "Transient Files Storage Folder" option, allowing Rumpus administrators to specify where temporary files, such as multi-file zip archives and guest drop ship files, should be stored. Added the "usernotes" token to Event Notices, allowing the notes entered on the "Define Users" window for each account to be included in Event Notice e-mail messages. Drop Ship and File Request URLs now work correctly when a non-standard HTTP port is being used, or when HTTPS is enabled. The file download icon is now removed from the directory listing when a user doesn't have the privilege of downloading a file. Resolved a rare User History display problem. The correct answer to this, I think, would be a window in Rumpus that allows you to look into the Drop Ship database. The ability to see each active drop ship, who sent the file, when it is set to expire, who received the e-mail and the filename, would be ideal. This definitely won't make version 6.2, but I'll put it on the list of things to look into for a future release. Whether or not this gets added will probably depend on how popular the Drop Ship feature becomes. Of course, if the problems you are having seem to be with Rumpus (as opposed to setup issues or user confusion), please report the problem to "support at maxum.com" so I can make sure the Drop Ship function works perfectly. The email notification should contain this ID. The uploaded files can be saved in a subdirectory whose name is equal to this ID (with additional date/timestamp). So it is no problem to find the associated files and it is unmistakeable. Just my 10 cent to this topic. I'm just doing it this way a long time ago for all our uploads with the help of scripting events and it is time-tested and it works perfectly. No confusion about uploaded files anymore... Also, I see that there is a "Find" command in the "Edit" menu but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a trick? Please make fields searchable not only in FileWatch, but in Rumpus Server as well. We have a lot of ftp activity and searching would be advantages. Thanks, Scott - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - No trees were killed in the sending of this message. That satisfied them in their request to not to have the "Last Modified" column showing. Now I ran into another issue. The files stored in their directory will be multi-media files with the extensions of .mp4, .m4v .mp3, and .mov. Rumpus is showing a default icon. They want to be able for the media centers to visually distinguish between them. I tried to open the thumbnail .jpg that Rumpus generates, but none of my applications recognize the file. Any way to get the generic equivalent set to individual file types? ____________________________ "When All Else Fails, Discontinue the use of All Else." Rumpus is showing a > default icon. They want to be able for the media centers to > visually distinguish between them. The Rumpus server is unable to generate thumbnail images on it's own, because as a daemon process it doesn't have access to graphical services of the system. So, when a thumbnail image needs to be generated, the Rumpus server hands the job off to the the Rumpus application, which uses OS X system services to actually create the thumbnail image JPEG. So, while the Rumpus application doesn't generally need to run for the server to function, this means that it does need to be running in order for thumbnails to be created any time new files are uploaded. There is also a difference in the system services available with which to generate thumbnails. In OS X 10.4, image processing services exist but are limited to fairly basic image file types. In OS X 10.5, Apple introduced QuickLook, which Rumpus takes advantage of to allow thumbnails to be created for many more file types. In fact, QuickLook plug-ins, installed on a Rumpus server, will be used to create thumbnails in Rumpus, so that your server's ability to display thumbnails can be extended by installing plug-ins for the file types stored on the server. To test to see if Rumpus is able to generate a thumbnail image of a particular file type on your server, use the "Generate Test Thumbnail" button on the Thumbnails tab of the Web Settings window. If a suitable thumbnail image can't be created, a system update may be required (especially if you are running OS X 10.4). If the server is running OS X 10.5 or later, search the Web for a QuickLook plug-in for the file type in question and install it, then retest. Finally, note that Rumpus stores thumbnails so that it doesn't have to regenerate them every time a directory listing is served. If default file icons have already been created for files in certain directories, you will need to signal Rumpus to rebuild images in those folders. To rebuild images, log in to the Web interface under a user account set with the "Administrator" privilege, move into the directory in question, and choose "Rebuild Images" from the "Thumbnail Actions" pop- up menu. First, the "Active Users" window and FileWatch now correctly remember column widths and positions. The ability to search these lists isn't included, but has been added to the list of things to look into for a future release. Second, Event Notice e-mails can now be sent via encrypted mail sessions. Security of event notices isn't usually a big deal, but some mail services, notably GMail, require it, so Rumpus notices can now be used with these mail servers. Just check the "Use TLS (Secure Mail)" option on the "Preferences" tab of the FTP Settings window to enable encrypted mail. Rumpus 6.2 is expected to be released by the end of the month, so again, if you are interested in using any of the new features, now is the time to check them out. Thanks! John Rumpus 6.2fc1 ------------- Corrected a character encoding problem that occurred when form data (including user-entered data in Upload Center forms) is sent when the Drag & Drop applet is used to upload files. Guest users accessing the server through Drop Ship and File Request URLs are now presented with the WFM appearance used by the Rumpus user when initiating the transfer. File type restrictions specified for WFM settings are now also applied to FTP transfers. The listing date is now displayed using the correct format when the default date format is selected for the main WFM interface. Added support for TLS encrypted outbound e-mail, allowing Event Notices to be sent via GMail and other secure mail services. Tables on the User Activity window (and in FileWatch) now remember column sizes and positions. From john at maxum.com Mon Nov 30 13:11:57 2009 From: john at maxum.com (John O'Fallon) Date: Mon, 30 Nov 2009 15:11:57 -0600 Subject: [Rumpus-talk] Press Release: Rumpus 6.2 Message-ID: <782FB904-B74C-43CB-8693-D48A701D00BA@maxum.com> Rumpus 6.2 Adds Guest Transfers, iPhone interface & More --------------------------- Executive Summary -------------------------- Rumpus FTP, the premier file transfer server for Mac OS X, has received a major update. Users can now allow guests to upload and download files with a single click, iPhone users can browse and review content via a simple, optimized interface and users can search for files by name or content. In addition, new appearance options make integrating file transfers into an existing Web site easier than ever, and Growl notifications give server administrators new ways to monitor transfer activity. Rumpus 6.2 is a free upgrade for anyone who has purchased a license since January 1, 2008, and costs $99 ($149 for Pro) to upgrade from any previous version. http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Rumpus version 6.2 is now available. The new version includes: Guest File Transfers Authorized users can now send files to anyone on the Internet using the integrated "Drop Ship" function. When a file is drop shipped, the recipient receives an e-mail with an easy to access URL that initiates a Web download to their computer. Rumpus users can also use the "File Request" feature to send an e-mail to a guest user, which allows the guest to quickly and easily upload a file to the original user's content area on the server. Optimized iPhone Interface A new interface, displayed automatically to mobile users, is optimized for reviewing images, videos, and other media on the iPhone's small screen. Login and navigation are now much easier, as is browsing and selecting media files for playback. Filename and Content Search Web users can now perform text searches to find files by name or content. Powered by the SpotLight search engine running on the server, search results are restricted to each user's content area and the folder in which the search is performed, maintaining server security and making it easy for users to control the scope of their queries. Growl Notification Rumpus now supports Growl, the popular notification system for OS X. All Rumpus notices, including file uploads, downloads, and administrator events can be directed to Growl notifications for simple, quick and unintrusive display, even across a network or to an iPhone (with the use of a 3rd party iPhone app). New Web Appearance Options An entirely new WFM template set, called "Modern", has been added, offering an optional sleek new look to the Rumpus Web File Manager. All Rumpus appearances can also make use of new background fades and patterns, and display simplified file listings with pop-up menu file actions. Other New Features * Rumpus now supports e-mail encryption, allowing Event Notices to send mail through GMail and other mail services that require secure connections. * File type restrictions specified for WFM settings are now also applied to FTP transfers. * Chinese WFM translations (both Simplified and Traditional) have been added. * FileWatch has been updated to allow outbound e-mail to be sent via OS X mail, allowing users to take advantage of full mail features when drop shipping files. The Maxum screencasts page includes demonstration videos of all the new features included in Rumpus 6.2. http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/Screencasts.html Rumpus 6.2 is a free upgrade for all users who purchased Rumpus since January 1, 2008. Users who purchased a Rumpus license prior to that date are eligible to upgrade for $99 (Rumpus Standard) or $149 (Rumpus Pro). http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/Upgrading.html As always, a free, fully-functional, time-limited trial package is available at the Maxum Web site. http://www.maxum.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Rumpus FTP, first launched in 1997, is the premier file transfer server for Mac OS. Maxum Development Corp. was the first commercial Internet software company to release products for Mac OS, and continues to innovate with it's industry leading Internet file transfer solution, Rumpus.
