My thought would be a small check box (same size as font) right in
front of the name

I agree that payment options an check in/check out would really
complicate things, I was thinking something a little more
simplistic.... person should be able to browse files adding them to a
"cart" or "que" then when they are done, they can download a zip file
containing the selected files. nice and simple
